90 Minutes • Lake Michigan Cold Plunge • Wood-Fired Saunas
SAUNATY at North Beach Park is presented in partnership with Ottawa County Parks and Recreation. Twenty percent of event proceeds supports this beautiful park.
By joining us, you're helping care for the shoreline and public spaces that make this experience possible.
Come experience the magic of wood-fired sauna on the shores of Lake Michigan! Whether you're a seasoned sauna enthusiast or trying it for the first time, SAUNATY invites you to slow down, warm up, and experience something a little different at North Beach Park this November.
Inspired by the traditional Finnish sauna experience, we alternate between intense heat, cold water, and periods of rest. You'll warm up in a wood-fired sauna heated to around 200°F, step outside to cool off in the crisp November air or take a refreshing dip in Lake Michigan, then rest, hydrate, and repeat.
This hot-cold-rest cycle is the heart of the experience. It's a chance to disconnect from the daily noise, reconnect with nature, share some good company, and leave feeling refreshed, relaxed, and vividly awake. No experience necessary, and cold plunging is always optional.
Real heat. Cold lake water. Crisp November air. Wide horizon. Two wood-fired saunas and one big lake.
Come for the heat. Stay for the feeling.
You are not in the sauna for 90 minutes straight!
The flow is simple:
Sauna → Lake → Rest → Hydrate → Repeat
Most guests complete three to four relaxed hot-cold cycles, but you can do more or less. Sauna rounds typically last 15–20 minutes. There is no required duration or number of rounds.
Listen to your body and step out whenever it stops feeling good. This isn't a toughness contest.
We stagger session start & end times and allow time for guests to change, exit, and for us to clean and reset. Please be mindful of your scheduled session time. There are clocks located by the sauna door near the floor.
Heat up in the sauna, cool off in Lake Michigan or the fresh air, rehydrate, and repeat at your own pace.
November brings colder water, dramatic skies, fewer people, and a quiet shoreline. Cold plunging is always optional. You can enjoy the full sauna experience without entering the lake.
High waves, strong currents, wind, or other hazardous conditions may limit or suspend lake access. Safety comes first.
We operate two translucent, wood-fired NorthUp Curve XL saunas, custom-built by professional sauna builders in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Their translucent exteriors, panoramic lake-facing windows, 100% red cedar interiors, Finnish-style dry heat, and controlled steam create an open, spacious experience.
The details:
Two wood-fired saunas
Six bookable seats per sauna
Temperatures typically around 200°F, plus or minus 15°
Upper benches are hottest; lower benches offer milder heat and lake views
Fresh-air ventilation exchanges the sauna's air approximately every four minutes
Background music and a friendly, social atmosphere
Steam etiquette: One ladle of water on the stones every 5–10 minutes is generally plenty. Heavy, frequent pours can cool the stones and reduce steam.
SAUNATY is a shared, community sauna experience.
Come solo, bring a friend, or meet a few new ones. Sessions are friendly and social, but there's no pressure to chat.
To reserve a sauna privately, book all six seats. If you're booking for fewer than six people, reserve the remaining seats using placeholder names such as empty1, empty2, etc.
Private groups may accommodate a seventh guest with prior approval and a completed online waiver.

This is an outdoor event on Lake Michigan in late fall, so conditions can change quickly.
Wind, waves, water temperature, and weather may affect lake access, changing tents, and other amenities. We may modify or cancel activities if conditions become unsafe.
We're primarily here to sauna. Even if the lake is too rough for plunging, watching November waves from a 200°F sauna bench is pretty spectacular.
We have just 6 bookable seats per time slot, and popular sessions fill quickly.
If your preferred session is full, join the waitlist. Cancellations happen.
Come solo. Bring a friend. Bring your favorite weirdos.
